Energy Infrastructure Targeted in Multiple Incidents
The Ministry of Energy has confirmed that multiple vital facilities, including oil, gas, refining, petrochemical, and power plants, were targeted in recent attacks across Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and Yanbu. Tragically, a citizen lost their life during these incidents. Authorities are currently managing the impact on operations.
Editor's note
It’s a tense day in the city. If you’re heading toward the industrial zones or working in the energy sector, expect heightened security and likely some disruptions to routine operations. I'm keeping my plans local and low-profile today—it's a good time to stay alert and follow official updates closely.
Industrial Production Climbs 8.9%
The General Authority for Statistics reported an 8.9% rise in the Industrial Production Index for February 2026 compared to last year. Growth was largely driven by mining, quarrying, and manufacturing sectors, alongside water and waste management utilities.
Editor's note
Even with the security headaches today, the industrial numbers show the Vision 2030 machine hasn't hit the brakes. It’s a solid indicator that the pivot away from pure crude output toward downstream and secondary industries is gaining real traction.
Citizen Account Deposit and Supply Chain Resilience
The Citizen Account Program deposited 3 billion SAR into the accounts of 9.8 million beneficiaries for the April cycle. Meanwhile, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) met with over 220 private sector representatives to discuss strengthening the resilience of food and medical supply chains.
Editor's note
The liquidity injection via the Citizen Account remains a crucial buffer for local households as the economy shifts. The SFDA's proactive approach on supply chains is smart—they're clearly trying to avoid any panic-buying or shortage scenarios given the current climate.
Regional Updates: Diriyah and Eastern Province
Prince Rakan bin Salman inspected ongoing projects at the Diriyah Gate development today, focusing on operational progress. In the Eastern Province, Prince Saud bin Bandar presided over the graduation ceremony for 5,100 students from the Arab Open University.
Editor's note
Business as usual for the site visits and graduations, which is actually a relief to see. It’s important that the massive infrastructure projects like Diriyah keep moving despite the noise elsewhere.
Diplomatic Dialogue on Regional Shifts
Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a phone call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss regional developments, specifically regarding the recent ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran.
Editor's note
The phones in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been ringing off the hook lately. A ceasefire in the region is obviously the main topic of conversation in every majlis across Riyadh right now.
